Sound art (n):
Sound compositions inspired by and created for visual
art. These creations support artwork they were inspired
by, and are played in conjunction with the gallery or museum
installation.
These pieces utilize every day sounds blended with
musical instruments chosen to emphasize unseen aspects of the
art.
“Working with sound in conjunction with visual
art allows me to explore sound for what it is – sound!
Compositions without the constraints of a musical modality, yet
not altogether rejecting known forms or instrumentation. This
allows me the freedom to compose as a painter paints a canvas.
To me, the sound of a garage door closing or a noisy restaurant
is as interesting as a musical composition. I hear sound as I
see visual art, as art.”
